Uiyeong Park

My residency in Normandy, France became the starting point for my attention to the region's traditional stripe patterns. I regard these patterns not as mere decoration, but as cultural markers shaped by accumulated time and place, and I adopt them as the structural core of my work. Through variations in color, shifts in line thickness, and asymmetrical arrangements, I construct rhythm and tension within the canvas, placing Blue at its center. For me, Blue embodies both stillness and solitude, evoking contemplation while forming a sensory field in which I explore my inner self. The stripe does not emerge from repetition, but from a question about boundaries. By adjusting the intervals and directions of lines, I intentionally unsettle fixed orders and balances. These formal decisions stem from a reflection on the invisible boundaries between self and other, past and present, individual and society.

프랑스 노르망디 레지던시 경험은 지역의 전통적인 스트라이프 패턴에 주목하게 한 계기가 되었다. 나는 이 패턴을 단순한 장식이 아닌, 시간과 장소가 축적된 문화적 표식으로 바라보며 작업의 핵심 구조로 삼았다. 색의 변화와 선의 굵기, 비대칭적 배열을 통해 화면에 리듬과 긴장을 형성하고, 그 중심에 블루를 배치했다. 블루는 평온과 고독, 사유의 감정을 동시에 내포하며 내면을 탐색하는 감각적 장을 만든다. 스트라이프는 반복이 아니라 경계에 대한 질문에서 출발하며, 나는 선의 간격과 방향을 조정해 고정된 질서를 흔든다. 이러한 조형적 선택은 자아와 타자, 과거와 현재, 개인과 사회 사이의 보이지 않는 경계를 사유하는 과정이다. 서로 다른 재료와 다층적 구조를 통해 감정과 사고의 여러 층위를 드러내고, 긴장 속 공존의 가능성을 탐색한다. 이 작업은 어딘가에 속하고자 하는 안정과 틀을 벗어나고자 하는 욕망 사이에서 균형을 모색하는, 여전히 진행 중인 질문에 대한 응답이다.
